White Plum Tower🕊️
The "White Plum Tower" is a memorial tower located in Maesato, Itoman City.
It is considered one of the places reached by the student corps of Okinawa Prefectural Second High School during the Okinawa War, and 149 school-related individuals are enshrined at the White Plum Tower. After the 1st Field Hospital of the 24th Division at Yaeza was disbanded, 16 students reached the natural cave in Maesato, where they cared for wounded soldiers, and were reportedly subjected to intense attacks on June 21 and 22, 1945.
Today, the White Plum Tower is an important place that quietly conveys the horrors of war and the value of peace. When visiting, please keep in mind that it is a place of memorial, and face the memories of the Okinawa War that remain in Itoman while quietly joining your hands in prayer.
