🐠Itoman Haru🚣‍♀️

2026/05/11

The Haru is an event held once a year in various places to pray for a good catch and safety at sea, and to ward off disasters, where traditional fishing boats called Sabani compete against each other🌱

In some regions, it is also called Harii.

At the Itoman Haru, brave men divided into three villages board the Haru boats and engage in fierce competitions🔥

The Itoman Haru in the Itoman district is well-known throughout the prefecture, conveying the essence of Okinawa's traditional folk beliefs, and as a typical example of boat rowing events, it was designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Itoman City in 2012!✨

During the breaks in the race, local children perform songs and dances on the boats, and there are also food stalls where you can enjoy delicious Itoman gourmet!💕

Why not visit the various Harii events and enjoy Okinawa's traditional events up close?🌺
