Iwaki 3.11 Memorial and Revitalisation Museum

2026/08/13

This facility aims to reassess the experiences of Iwaki City, which was struck by an unprecedented compound disaster of earthquakes, tsunamis, and a nuclear accident during the Great East Japan Earthquake, ensuring that the memories and lessons of the disaster are not forgotten and are passed on to future generations.

In the exhibition room, there are "panel displays" about the damage and recovery, "touch panel displays" to learn about disasters and life in evacuation centers, and "actual exhibits" such as the blackboard from the former Toyoma Junior High School that was affected by the tsunami, along with actual tsunami footage. Additionally, for those who wish to "visit the disaster area to learn" or "go to support the disaster area," we conduct "disaster storytellers" sessions where you can hear directly about the memories and lessons of the Great East Japan Earthquake, as well as the current situation and recovery status of the disaster area.
