The exact year of establishment is unclear, but according to the record "Shugen Keizu Shoshō" (Kansei 6, 1794) preserved in the Shugen Daibōin, it has been a place of worship as the Betsudō temple of Kamafuchi Shō Kannon since the first Daibōin was opened in the first year of Bunroku (1592) until the time of the 6th generation, Hōjuin. Together with the towering ginkgo tree in the precincts, it conveys a long history to the present day. Additionally, in the 7th year of Kyōhō (1722), a monk named Hōgakushū from Nanakaichi, the 6th generation of Daijiji in Hachinohe, completed the "Thousand Statues of Buddha" here. It is a precious historical site where one can feel the depth of the prayers and faith of the local people. Kamafuchi Shō Kannon is also counted as the 27th temple of the "Nukabe Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage" and is cherished as a pilgrimage site.
